Two special women at TEDxEustonSalon 2014 - Last 3 tickets!

At TEDxEustonSalon 2014, we will engage with the remarkable ideas and stories of two special women, redefining education in their own unique ways.

Naana Otoo-Oyortey has never chosen the easy option. As a social activist and women’s rights defender, Naana is passionate about giving women the tools to become change agents on the issues that matter to them. Some of these issues are tough issues in our context; from child marriage to Female genital mutilation, yet Naana does not shy away from them, but brings an articulated and nuanced understanding to the discourse and will challenge the way many of us view our world.

Precious Simba started her career as many of us have, in a fairly comfortable job as a senior manager in the Zimbabwean town of Bulawayo, but decided to leave her retail career in 2011 to pursue her passion for inspiring young girls from under-privileged backgrounds. She established the Girls Development Initiative, an organisation that empowers girls with education opportunities and life skills. Through this programme she has brought a whole new perspective to life and its opportunities to so many young women, changing her world - one girl at a time.

These will be special talks from two special women at TEDxEustonSalon 2014.

Lets see who will get the last 3 available tickets to TEDxEustonSalon 2014

Kunle Adeyemi at TEDxEustonSalon

Why is an architect speaking at a TEDxEustonSalon focusing on education? Well, Kunle Adeyemi is not your normal architect and TEDxEustonSalon is not your normal event! This year’s Salon, holding at the British Museum, will be special in more ways than one. Kunle’s passion as an architect, urbanist and researcher is truly evident in his countless innovative projects, including the Makoko floating school project, through which he completely challenges conventional wisdom on everything from the economics of education to the perceived chaos of Lagos. Be prepared to see the world from a whole new point of view after the salon.

Its nearly sold out, so get one of the very last tickets here

For those that have attended one in the past, it’s a lovely intimate affair where you will not only be able to listen to the speakers, but to mingle with them and others, enjoy some lovely wine and food and you already know how we end all our events.

See you on the 21st!

"My journey is essentially about transcending boundaries. Its ethos: a delicate exploration of the relationship between art and experience, how that expression is transformed to music and how that music translates to pure emotional impulse. As an artist, I find that my work also encapsulates my evolution as a woman."
Bumi's sound is a contemporary fusion that combines jazz, folklore, high life, Afro-beat rhythms, reggae grooves and tribal nuances. A truly organic fusion of ornate rhythms, thought stimulating lyrics, ambient melodies infused with funk and delivered with soul. A sound- scape rich in texture, imagination, originality and poetry inflected by the influence of Tracy Chapman, Sade Adu, Bobby McFerrin, Nina Simone and Miriam Makeba. Bumi  is the 2011 recipient of  the Womatt Best of British (BOB) Award for Best Solo Newcomer and was also nominated for two BEFFTA awards "Best Female Act" and "Best Female UK Based Afro-Caribbean Act".
